Lumosity was hit with a $2 million fine from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for false claims concerning their brain training app.

The FTC says Lumosity simply didn’t have the evidence to support claims that their “brain training” program would increase performance in work or school, reduce age-related cognitive decline and risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Lumosity went even further to claim that their training program would reduce cognitive damage from problems like stroke, ADHD, PTSD and chemotherapy side effects.

Lumosity charges $14.95 for a monthly subscription, or $299.95 for the full year. Those who registered for the auto-renewal program between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2014 will be notified and provided with the means to cancel their subscription.
