The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report advising sexually active women without birth control to completely cut alcohol from their lives. They say the risk of becoming pregnant and having your fetus suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome is too great.
The report stems from facts like there is no safe level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, that almost half of all pregnancies are unplanned and that sexually active women often drink alcohol.
I do not think that further stigmatizing sexually active women who drink alcohol was the smartest way to increase awareness on the issue, but it surely worked.
Despite backlash from people, including some irritating feminists, CDC provided some intriguing and slightly worrying facts like 75% of women intending to get pregnant reported drinking alcohol.
Now that’s just plain irresponsible. All fetal alcohol syndrome disorders are preventable. Perhaps this was their intended message…
